In a dazzling display of appreciation and achievement, FirstBank Sierra Leone hosted its flagship FAMA 2025 (FirstBank Annual Merit Awards) on Saturday, June 14, 2025,  at the prestigious Bintumani Hotel in Aberdeen, Freetown. The event brought together executives, staff, and invited guests for a night dedicated to celebrating excellence, inspiring innovation, and honouring outstanding contributions across the bank.

Held under the theme “Celebrating Giants, Inspiring Excellence,” this year’s ceremony marked a moment of reflection and appreciation for the tireless efforts of employees over the past year. The evening featured vibrant performances, emotional tributes, and powerful speeches that underscored a culture of excellence at the bank.

Keynote addresses were delivered by Team Lead of the Human Capital Management Division, Miss Jeminatu Zainab Mansaray, Managing Director Mr. Udeme O. Udoh, and Group Managing Director Mr. Olusegun Alebiosu.

Miss Jeminatu Zainab Mansaray, who also received the MD/CEO Award, opened the evening with a heartfelt message:

“Tonight is not just about recognition; it is about the resilience, passion, and silent sacrifices each one of us makes daily. Let this be a reminder that excellence is not accidental—it is deliberate.”

In his keynote speech, Managing Director Mr. Udeme O. Udoh expressed deep pride in the achievements of the team:

“We are here to celebrate more than performance; we are celebrating purpose. Our people are the heartbeat of this institution, and their contributions fuel our continued success. Congratulations to all our giants.”

Group Managing Director Mr. Olusegun Alebiosu echoed these sentiments, encouraging continued commitment:

“The FAMA Awards are a symbol of what we value—integrity, service, innovation. As we look forward to greater heights, let us carry the spirit of today into every challenge ahead.”

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of seven major awards, each recognizing exceptional contributions by individuals and teams. The 2025 FAMA winners and their words of gratitude were:

The event concluded with electrifying performances by talented local artists—many of whom are staff members—followed by a festive dinner and celebration. Staff danced and rejoiced not just in their individual wins, but in the shared spirit of growth and excellence.

As FirstBank Sierra Leone advances in digital transformation and continues to lead in customer satisfaction, events like FAMA serve as a reminder that its people remain the bank’s most valuable asset. With the successful staging of FAMA 2025, the bank has once again raised the bar, fostering a culture of performance, passion, and purpose.

Biography of Alhaaj Marcus Bangura Alhaaj Marcus Bangura is a seasoned media practitioner, civil society activist, political and media analyst, lecturer, and author. He holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Diplomacy and International Relations, a Bachelor of Laws with Honours (LLB-Hons), and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science and History, all from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. He also holds a Certificate in Policy Formulation, Implementation, and Evaluation from the Institute of Capacity Development (ICD) in Windhoek, Namibia. Marcus is the Founder and Executive Director of Citizen’s Forum for Democratic Accountability, and serves as Managing Editor and Publisher of C4D Media Newspaper. He is also a Lecturer at Milton Margai Technical University in Sierra Leone, where he specializes in teaching Diplomacy and International Relations, Politics/Government and History, and Media and Advocacy in Global Politics. As an author, Marcus Bangura has written two key educational texts—A-1 Government for Senior Secondary School and A-1 National History for Senior Secondary School—which have been widely used in Sierra Leonean secondary schools since 2013, despite being unpublished in the formal sense. He has recently completed a new textbook aligned with the updated secondary school syllabus titled Foundations of Politics and Governance, which is awaiting release. He is currently working on two historical fiction novels: The Betrayed King of Kasseh and BASARAKA. Professionally, Marcus focuses on issues of governance, accountability, justice, corruption, service delivery, and democratic oversight. His advocacy is centered on making socio-economic services more accessible, affordable, and effective. Through his writings, lectures, and media productions, he amplifies citizen voices and champions transparency and responsible governance. His recent digital initiative, TruthIn-Series with Marcus Bangura on TikTok, is part of his broader engagement in civic education and political awareness. Marcus Bangura is a passionate advocate for civil rights, political education, and social justice. He is deeply committed to empowering citizens through knowledge and critical dialogue. He is married to a beautiful and educated wife, and they are blessed with three children.
