The Secretary General of INTERPOL, Mr. Valdecy Urquiza, met with Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, on the sidelines of the 27th INTERPOL African Regional Conference to discuss collaborative strategies for combating transnational organized crime.
During their discussion, IGP Sellu highlighted Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to enhance information and data-sharing mechanisms among national security agencies, emphasizing that effective collaboration with INTERPOL has been crucial in addressing cross-border criminal activities within the country.
Mr. Urquiza reaffirmed INTERPOL’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s law enforcement, including working closely with the West African Police Chiefs’ Organization (WAPCCO) and facilitating the decentralization of INTERPOL’s operations at the regional level.
This meeting aligns closely with Sustainable Development Goal 16, which aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable institutions. Strengthening international cooperation and law enforcement collaboration is essential for combating transnational organized crime, which threatens peace, security, and stability across nations.
By fostering stronger partnerships and information exchange, Sierra Leone and INTERPOL are actively contributing to the global efforts to create safer societies and uphold the rule of law, advancing progress toward sustainable development and regional security.
