HRND-SL condemn threats against Journalist Amadu Lamrana Bah
The Human Rights Defenders Network Sierra Leone (HRDN-SL), a coalition of civil society and individuals working to promote and protect human rights with a specific focus on defending human rights defenders, in a Press release dated 5th April 2024, has expressed concerns and condemned the continued threats against Journalist Alpha Lamrana Bah following his publication in which he questioned the President Bio’s latest acquisition of a Maybach Benz Jeep amidst the growing economic burden and hardship on the ordinary Sierra Leonean. The Award Winning Journalist of the Year 2023 also levelled criticisms of the President’s frequent travels and international lectures.
Issues raised by Bah in his publication have put him into hiding following the continued harassment, intimidation and threats against his person in contravention of his human rights and freedom of expression.
In its Press Release titled ‘’HRDN-SL CONDEMNS THE DELIBERATE AND CALCULATED THREATS AND AMADU LAMRANA BAH ONLINE ATTACKS ON JOURNALIST.’’
The Press release stated the recent threats when Bah has the right to level criticisms against government bodies and agencies as established in Article 8 (2) of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights Defenders.
