A man accused of swindling $2,000 in a Canadian visa scam has been remanded by a Freetown court, as his case is set to continue next month.
The accused, Andrew Danny Stephanus Lahai appeared before Magistrate Adama Kandeh at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 4 in Freetown today, facing charges related to visa fraud.
Lahai was arraigned on a single count of obtaining money by false pretences, in violation of Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The prosecution alleges that between July 7 and July 14, 2025, at Fides’ Law Chambers on Bright Lane, Cole Farm, Wilkinson Road, Freetown, Lahai deceitfully obtained $2,000 from Isatu Kargbo. It is alleged that he falsely claimed he would secure a Canadian visa and assist Osman Bundu’s travel to Canada, knowing that these claims were untrue.
Inspector A.T. Bangura is prosecuting the case.
During the hearing, defense lawyer A. Amara told the court that the defense had been exploring an alternative settlement and would update the court on progress. He also requested bail for the accused.
Magistrate Kandeh, after considering the submissions, denied bail and ordered Lahai to be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility.
The case has been adjourned to September 4, 2025.
