Musa Turay ,38, a former teacher at St. Joseph Secondary School has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment after being found guilty of sexual penetration of a 12- and 13-years old girls.
Turay was facing trial on two count charges of sexual offences before Justice Momoh Jah Stevens at the sexual offences court No 7 of the High Court of Sierra Leone at Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown.
Turay was convicted on multiple sexual offences involving two underaged girls, aged 12 and 13. The charges included Sexual Penetration under Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012, as amended in 2019 and sexual abuse by a person in trust under Section 21(1)(a) of the same Act.
According to the indictment, between February 1 and March 14, 2024, Turay, while in a position of trust, sexually abused and penetrated the victims in Freetown. Turay had earlier denied all charges levied on him and pleaded not guilty of the offenses when the charges were read and explained to him in court on July 3, 2024.
During the cause of the trial, the prosecution led three witnesses in the first case file and five witnesses in the second, all of whom gave damning revelations in their testimonies that influenced the court’s decision.
After considering all the evidence in the matter as presented by both the prosecution and defence counsels, Justice Stevens found Turay guilty of the offenses and convicted him to 15 years imprisonment separately on each count charge making it a total of 30 years jail term. After considering the time served already in prison, Justice Stevens ruled that Turay would serve 15 years imprisonment for time served.
