A businesswoman, Mishella Koroma, was remanded to prison yesterday after being arraigned on charges of unlawfully possessing and dealing in cocaine at Freetown International Airport.
Koroma made her initial court appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown. She faces four charges related to the unlawful possession and dealing in prohibited drugs.
The charges against her include:
Collecting a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 7(b) of the National Drug Control Act 2008.
She is also accused of dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 7(c) of the same Act, and transporting a prohibited drug without lawful authority, also contrary to Section 7(b).
Koroma is also accused of being in possession of a prohibited drug without lawful authority, in violation of Section 8(a) of the Act.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Freetown International Airport in Lungi, Port Loko District, Northern Province, Koroma was accused of collecting a prohibited drug without lawful authority, dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority, transporting a prohibited drug without lawful authority.
Koroma is also accused of possessing two small parcels of cocaine without lawful authority.
When the charges were read and explained, Koroma did not enter a plea because she is brought to court on a preliminary investigation.
Prosecutor DPC 18235 Kabbie K. Thoronka requested a short adjournment to lead the prosecution’s first witness. The defense was represented by C. Pujeh Esq.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Fornah declined bail, citing the seriousness of the offences.
Koroma was remanded to the female correctional facility in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to July 2, 2025.
