Six Sierra Leonean military doctors have achieved a remarkable milestone by ranking among the top ten participants worldwide in an intensive aerospace medicine training program, marking a significant boost for the country’s aviation safety standards.
The training, which began in March 2024 and brought together 70 participants from different countries, concluded recently with all six Sierra Leonean doctors ranking among the top ten worldwide. This outstanding performance is being celebrated as a boost to aviation safety and a milestone for national development.
According to the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), the doctors will now provide critical expertise in safeguarding the health of aircrew, passengers, and aviation personnel — an essential requirement for modern air transport operations.
Established by an Act of Parliament in 2008, the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority is responsible for regulating and promoting safe, secure, and efficient air transport services in the country. Its mandate includes compliance with international aviation standards, capacity development, and the advancement of Sierra Leone’s aviation industry.
Officials say this achievement reflects the Authority’s commitment to strengthening human resource capacity in specialized fields, ensuring Sierra Leone keeps pace with global aviation best practices.
